Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) will organize the First Executive Council Meeting of the 10th Asian Parliamentary Assembly plenary session from 1-4 October 2017 in Phnom Penh, hosted by the Parliament of the Kingdom of Cambodia. There are 25 parliamentary delegations from the 42 member countries of the APA attending this First Executive Council Meeting.

From 30th September till 1st October, many parliamentary delegations have been arriving in the Kingdom. At the Phnom Penh international airport, Cambodian members of parliament and senior officials of the Secretariat General of the National Assembly have been waiting to warmly welcome the arriving delegations.

Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei HENG Samrin, President of the National Assembly and President of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA), will preside over the opening ceremony of the First Executive Council Meeting on the morning of 2nd October at the Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel and Residence. The presence of twenty-five APA’s member countries who will attend the current meeting of the First Executive Council Meeting is much larger than previous meetings in the parliamentary forum.

H.E. Dr. Nguon Nhel, Second Vice-President of the National Assembly and Chairman of the organizing committee stressed that the presence of a large number of parliamentary delegations attending the current meeting has shown the great trust and honor of friendship from those countries to the Royal Government and the Cambodian parliament that have always been active in pursuing for peace and security in the region and the world.

APA’s member countries attending this First Executive Council Meeting, hosted by Cambodian parliament, are Afghanistan, Bharain, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, Cyprus, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Laos, Malaysia, Nepal, North Korea, Pakistan, Palestine, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Thailand, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, and Cambodia. Among the 25 member countries, two are led by the Speaker of the Senate, Pakistan and Bhutan. The other two countries are Thailand and Bahrain led by the President of the National Assembly.

The Cambodian parliament has been the President of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly since 2015. Following the charter and internal rules of this inter-parliamentary forum, , the Cambodian parliament has hosted the annual plenary session for two consecutive years, the 8th Asian Parliamentary Assembly in 2015, the 9th APA plenary session in 2016 along with several other executive council meetings. The First Executive Council Meeting this year is the final assignment for Cambodia as the President of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly.

The First Executive Council Meeting of the 10th APA plenary session to be hosted by Cambodian parliament will review and consider the contents of the four Decisions of the APA’s standing committee including:
- Seven draft Resolutions of the Standing Committee on Political Affairs
- Six draft Resolutions of the APA Standing Committee on Economic and Sustainable Development
- One draft Resolutions of the APA Standing Committee on Staff and Financial Regulations
- Ten draft Resolutions of the APA Standing Committee on Social and Cultural Affairs

The results of the First Executive Council Meeting will be forwarded to the Second Executive Council Meeting and the 10th APA plenary session which will be hosted by Turkish parliament in late 2017.
