Phnom Penh, 22 September 2024 — A high-level Cambodian parliamentary delegation, led by Samdech Rathsaphea Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly, departed for China on an official and friendly visit from 22 to 26 September 2024 at the invitation of Hon. Mr. Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC) of the People’s Republic of China.
They were seen off at Phnom Penh International Airport this morning by Hon. Kittisethabindit Cheam Yeap, the NA first vice-president, Hon. Mr. Vong Sauth, the NA second vice-president, chairpersons and representatives of the NA Commissions, members of parliament, and senior officials from the Secretariat-General of the National Assembly, as well as H.E. Mr. Wang Wenbin, Chinese Ambassador to the Kingdom of Cambodia, and his colleagues.
The visit aims to further strengthen the bond of friendship and good cooperation between the two legislative bodies and countries under both bilateral and multilateral frameworks guided by the spirit of traditional relationship, ironclad friendship, and comprehensive strategic partnership, focusing on people-centered development for the mutual benefits of both nations and peoples.
As planned, Samdech Rathsaphea Thipadei will have a courtesy call on Hon. Mr. Wang Huning, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), a bilateral meeting with her counterpart Hon. Mr. Zhao Leji, Chairman of the National People's Congress of China, and meeting with Hon. Mr. Chen Jining, Secretary of Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, and other Chinese leaders.
Both parliamentary leaders will sign a cooperation agreement between the two legislative bodies and preside over the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Secretariat-General of NAC and the General Office of the Standing Committee of NPC to promote bilateral exchanges, capacity building, and information and knowledge sharing at all levels.
During the stay, the delegation will visit historical, cultural and industrial sites in Beijing and Shanghai as part of fostering people-to-people contacts that is part to enduring friendship and good cooperation between the two countries in tourism, culture, economy, trade, education, and technology.
This marks the fifth official foreign visit by President Sudary since the commencement of the 7th Legislature of the National Assembly. The previous visits include Viet Nam, Lao PDR, Thailand, and France. Under the leadership of Samdech Khuon Sudary, the National Assembly of Cambodia has proactively engaged international friends and partners to forge partnerships for common interests, while nurturing old friends and making new friends.
