Beijing, China, 25 September 2024 – A high-level Cambodian parliamentary delegation, led by Samdech Rathsaphea Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, visited the Forbidden City this morning during their official and friendly visit to China, this morning.

The Forbidden City, also known as the Palace Museum, is located in the heart of Beijing. It was home of Chinese emperors and the political hub for nearly 500 years. Built by the Yongle Emperor of the Ming Dynasty in 1406, it was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987 for its historical and cultural significance.

The visit aims to foster connections between people, cultures, and tourism, laying the foundation for strengthened cooperation in parliamentary diplomacy for the benefit of both nations. Notably, 2024 is designated as the year of people-to-people exchanges between Cambodia and China under the Diamond Cooperation Framework, aimed at building a high-quality, high-level, and high-standard Cambodia-China Community with a Shared Future in a new era.

During their stay in Beijing, the Cambodian NA President paid a courtesy call on Honourable Mr. Wang Huning, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), and held a bilateral meeting with Honourable Mr. Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC) of China.

Samdech Khuon Sudary and Honourable Mr. Zhao Leji signed a cooperation agreement between the two parliaments. In addition, His Excellency Mr. Leng Peng Long, Secretary-General of the National Assembly of Cambodia, and His Excellency Mr. Liu Qi, Secretary of the General Office of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two Secretariats of the two legislatures.

These signed documents reflect the strong commitment of both parliaments to strengthening and expanding parliamentary exchanges and cooperation in both bilateral and multilateral frameworks.
