Vientiane, Lao PDR, 22 October 2024 – The Honourable Mr. Suos Yara, Chairman of the National Assembly Commission on Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Information, has met with the Honourable Mr. Osman Sağlam, Member of Parliament and Head of Delegation of the Republic of Türkiye to the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA).

Meeting on the sidelines of the 45th AIPA General Assembly in Vientiane on Monday, Hon. Suos Yara welcomed Türkiye’s intention to expand cooperation with Cambodia and ASEAN. He invited Turkish lawmakers to the 11th Plenary Session of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace (IPTP) to be hosted in November by Cambodia, where a Peace Charter initiative will be announced.

Hon. Osman Sağlam, who is also Chairman of the Türkiye-ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group, accepted the invitation and thanked the Cambodian side for supporting the Turkish Parliament’s accession to AIPA in 2023. He expressed satisfaction with the development of Türkiye’s relations with Cambodia and the ASEAN region, particularly in economic and trade cooperation.

The two sides exchanged experience and discussed the potential for developing the tourism industry and processing agricultural products in Cambodia. Representatives of the Cambodian and Turkish parliaments will continue to promote exchanges of parliamentary delegations between the two countries.
