NA President Says Diplomats Stand on Front Lines Defending National Interests and Values

Phnom Penh, 8 November 2024 – Samdech Rathsaphea Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, received a courtesy call Friday from four newly appointed Cambodian ambassadors ahead of their departure for diplomatic missions abroad.

On behalf of the National Assembly, Samdech Rathsaphea Thipadei expressed her congratulations and full support to the ambassadors appointed by the Royal Government under the clear-sighted and dynamic leadership of Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia.

The NA President stressed that diplomats represented the entire nation on the international stage and stood on the front lines in defending national interests, values, and strategic objectives. She said diplomatic missions along with domestic efforts were crucial to protect and promote national identity, economic growth, and stability.

The four newly appointed ambassadors extraordinary and plenipotentiary are H.E. Mr. Koy Kuong (to the United States and Mexico), H.E. Mr. Prak Nguon Hong (to Brazil), H.E. Mrs. Rath Many (to India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Iran, Nepal, and the Maldives) and H.E. Mr. Chheng Manit (to Myanmar).

Samdech Khuon Sudary said she strongly believed that the ambassadors would use their abilities and experience in diplomatic work to achieve great results in fulfilling their missions on behalf of the people and nation.

At the same time, she recommended the ambassadors always prioritize Cambodia’s interests while maintaining and upholding national values and reputation at all times. She said they should lead wisely and strategically, making efforts to strengthen and expand friendly relations, solidarity, and cooperation under both bilateral and multilateral frameworks. She also recommended they widely promote positive aspects of Cambodia to attract more investors and tourists.

Samdech Khuon Sudary urged the ambassadors to support and pay attention to Cambodians residing abroad, referring to the Khmer saying, "At home, we have different mothers, but in the forest, we share the same mother."

The NA Speaker also urged the ambassadors to help enhance the Cambodian Parliament’s relations and cooperation with parliaments in the countries to which they are accredited, with the aim of promoting dialogue as well as mutual understanding, trust and benefits.

Speaking on behalf of the ambassadors, H.E. Mr. Koy Kuong expressed profound thanks to Samdech Rathsaphea Thipadei for taking the time to provide an opportunity for the ambassadors to receive a range of valuable recommendations before their departure abroad.

He said the ambassadors were firmly committed to fulfilling their missions to successfully promote Cambodia’s national reputation on the international stage. At the same time, he said, they will strive to spread the truth about Cambodia to the international community, attract tourists and investors to Cambodia, and especially pay close attention to and take utmost responsibility for Cambodians living abroad.
