Phnom Penh, 9 November 2024 – Samdech Rathsaphea Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly, commemorated the 71st anniversary of Cambodia’s independence from France on Saturday under the highest patronage of His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia.
The ceremony at the Independence Monument was attended by a diverse group including leaders of the legislative and executive branches, supreme privy councillors to His Majesty the King, members of parliament, government officials, diplomats and other international guests, members of the armed forces, teachers, students and youth.
Independence Day commemorates His Late Majesty King Norodom Sihanouk’s dedicated mission for the motherland and the Cambodian people. Revered as the Father of National Independence, His Late Majesty sacrificed his body, blood, and intellect to achieve full independence for Cambodia.
In addition to independence in 1953, November 9 also marks the 71st anniversary of the foundation of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF).
