Phnom Penh, 25 November 2024 – Hon. Kittisethabindit Cheam Yeap, First Vice-President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, emphasized the importance of multilateralism, cooperation, and inclusive connectivity in today's global landscape, in his remark address at the 2nd Plenary of the 11th Plenary Session of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace (IPTP), this morning.

The session, co-chaired by Honorable Mr. Eknath Dhakal, member of Chairman of the International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace (IAPP) Asia Pacific, and Honorable Mrs. Margarita Restrepo, Chairperson of the General Assembly of Global Council for Tolerance and Peace (GCTP), in Sokha Phnom Penh hotel, brought together distinguished guests and leaders to discuss pressing global challenges.

In his remarks, Hon. Cheam Yeap highlighted the critical juncture at which the world stands, urging nations to embrace a win-win approach to build shared prosperity. He stressed the interconnectedness of global security and the need for a fair and inclusive global governance framework. “Cambodia, as a small and open country, relies on a stable, peaceful regional and global environment for development,” he stated, advocating for true, open, and inclusive multilateralism and a commitment to international law.

Under the leadership of Samdech Techo Hun Sen and Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Cambodia has achieved lasting peace and prosperity, enabling it to play an active role on the international stage. The country has contributed approximately 10,000 peacekeepers to UN missions worldwide and serves as a model for post-conflict nations through its experience with transitional justice.

Hon. Cheam Yeap concluded with five proposals to advance global peace and prosperity, including opposing protectionism and zero-sum geopolitics, reinforcing genuine multilateralism, and adopting a human-centered approach in development strategies.

“Cambodia remains committed to promoting dialogue and cooperation for global peace,” he affirmed, expressing the nation's aspiration to be a bridge of trust and cooperation. The session underscored Cambodia's dedication to fostering global peace and multilateral cooperation, reflecting its significant role in international peacebuilding efforts.
