Phnom Penh, 2 June 2025 – During an address to the Congress of the National Assembly and Senate, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, provided an update on the ongoing Cambodia-Thailand border dispute, emphasizing the need to present the case to the International Court of Justice for a complete resolution.
He clarified that this move represents the official stance of the Royal Government of Cambodia, underscoring the nation's commitment to a peaceful resolution while maintaining its right to self-defense and protecting its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
He acknowledged the leadership of Samdech Techo and appreciated his efforts in rallying public support for the armed forces. He thanked the Cambodian people for their unwavering support and called for continued assistance, urging all parties to refrain from actions that could heighten tensions.
He also stressed the importance of strengthening national unity, preventing extremist groups from politically manipulating the border issue.
Meanwhile, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate and Chair of the Congress, supported the Royal Government’s steadfast dedication to resolving the border dispute through peaceful negotiation. He proposed the establishment of a negotiation mechanism and sought the Congress’s backing for taking the matter to the International Court of Justice, alongside informing the United Nations Security Council.
He emphasized that while Cambodia seeks peaceful solutions, it remains determined to defend its sovereignty by all necessary means. Despite the border dispute, other areas of cooperation with Thailand remain unaffected.
At the conclusion, the Congress unanimously approved the decision to issue a statement on the border issue, with all 182 members casting votes in favor.
