Tibor Baloghdi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Hungary to the Kingdom of Cambodia, at the National Assembly Palace.
During the meeting, both sides expressed satisfaction with the steady progress of Cambodia–Hungary relations and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation and parliamentary ties for the mutual benefit of the two countries and peoples.
Samdech highly appreciated and valued the longstanding friendship and partnership between Cambodia and Hungary, emphasizing that “the friendship and partnership between Cambodia and Hungary have continued to grow from strength to strength, based on mutual trust, mutual respect, mutual understanding, and mutual support in all circumstances.”
Samdech also commended the efforts and achievements of Ambassador Tibor Baloghdi and his colleagues in deepening cooperation between the two countries and peoples, noting that collaboration across various sectors—including legislative, executive, and people-to-people exchanges—has expanded remarkably in recent years.
Recalling her fruitful official visit to Hungary in 2025, Samdech noted that “My visit to Hungary last year was truly fruitful and memorable. It reflected the deep trust and warm friendship between our two countries and peoples.” She also expressed appreciation to the National Assembly and Government of Hungary for the warm hospitality extended to the Cambodian delegation.
During the discussion, Samdech highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation in key areas such as water resource management, food security, and agriculture, while emphasizing the significance of connecting the Danube and Mekong rivers as symbols of cooperation and sustainable development.
Samdech also recalled her experience studying in Hungary during the 1980s, describing the warm hospitality she received as a life-changing experience and noting that many Cambodian leaders had also studied there.
“The Hungarian people value peace, prosperity, and harmony, just like the Cambodian people. We share many common values, and people-to-people ties remain the strong foundation of our bilateral relations,” Samdech stressed.
Looking ahead, Samdech emphasized the importance of continuing close cooperation to address shared global challenges, including climate change, economic uncertainty, water security, food security, wars, and conflicts, while reaffirming Cambodia’s commitment as a reliable partner of Hungary in engaging with Southeast Asia.
She also stressed the importance of effectively implementing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two parliaments for the benefit of both peoples and highlighted Cambodia’s commitment to maintaining economic growth, productivity, and competitiveness as the country prepares to graduate from Least Developed Country (LDC) status by 2029.
For his part, Ambassador Tibor Baloghdi expressed sadness at concluding his diplomatic mission in Cambodia, while describing it as an honor to have served Hungary and contributed to strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
He expressed satisfaction with the notable progress achieved in parliamentary cooperation, noting that Cambodia–Hungary relations have reached new milestones in recent years and commending Samdech Khuon Sudary’s official visit to Hungary as an important contribution to deepening parliamentary ties.
Ambassador Tibor Baloghdi affirmed that, even after the conclusion of his diplomatic mission in Cambodia, he would continue to share his views with Hungary’s leadership in support of the further development of bilateral relations between Hungary and Cambodia.
Highlighting educational and people-to-people exchanges as an important pillar of bilateral relations, Ambassador Baloghdi welcomed the growing number of Cambodian students pursuing studies in Hungary and underscored the importance of expanding academic exchanges in both directions.
“We are encouraged by the growing number of Cambodian students studying in Hungary, who serve as valuable bridges between our two countries. At the same time, we hope to see more Hungarian students come to Cambodia to better understand Asia, Cambodian culture, and explore opportunities for economic, trade, and regional cooperation between Europe and Asia,” he said.
The Ambassador also described Cambodia as an important country in ASEAN with an increasingly influential voice and expressed confidence in the country’s continued development and growing role in the region.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continue strengthening bilateral relations and parliamentary cooperation, including through the effective implementation of agreements between the two legislatures. They also agreed to closely cooperate in commemorating the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Hungary in 2026.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Samdech Khuon Sudary conveyed warm regards and best wishes to the leaders and people of Hungary and wished Ambassador Tibor Baloghdi and his colleagues good health, happiness, and continued success in their future endeavors.
