Beijing, 23 September 2024 – After arriving in China, a high-level Cambodian parliamentary delegation, led by Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, visited the Great Wall, one of the world’s most famous historical sites, this morning.
The visit to the Great Wall aims to connect the rich and long-standing culture and civilizations of the two countries, fostering connections between their peoples as the foundation for cooperation in parliamentary diplomacy, tourism, trade, and economic sectors. This year is designated as the People-to-People Exchange Year, under the agreed strategy by the leaders of the two countries within the Diamond cooperation framework, to build a high-quality, high-level, and high-standard Cambodia-China Community with a Shared Future.
The Great Wall was continuously built from the 3rd century BC to the 17th century AD on the northern border of the country as a great military defense project. It spans approximately 21,196 kilometers, with the width varying between 4 and 9 meters. Inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1987, the Great Wall continues to attract millions of tourists worldwide.
At the invitation of Honourable Mr. Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC), Samdech Khuon Sudary is leading a delegation on a four-day official and friendly visit to China from 22 to 26 September 2024. This visit aims to strengthen the bond of friendship and good cooperation between the two countries and their legislative bodies, deepening and expanding their relationship in both bilateral and multilateral frameworks.
As planned, this afternoon, Samdech Khuon Sudary and Hon. Mr. Zhao Leji will hold a bilateral meeting and sign a cooperation agreement. The two parliamentary leaders will preside over the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the secretariats of these legislative bodies, promoting bilateral exchanges, capacity building, and information and knowledge sharing at all levels.
