Budapest, 28 October 2025 — Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, paid a courtesy call on Hon. Tamás Sulyok, President of Hungary, on Monday afternoon at Sándor Palace during her official and friendly visit to the country.

During the meeting, both leaders expressed satisfaction with the successful outcomes of the recent bilateral talks between Samdech Khuon Sudary and Hungarian Speaker László Kövér, highlighting the importance of parliamentary cooperation, people-to-people exchanges, and collaboration in economic, educational, and cultural sectors.

President Tamás Sulyok emphasized that the friendship between Cambodia and Hungary is deeply rooted and enduring. He noted that next year will mark the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations and looked forward to welcoming His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni for a state visit to Hungary in January 2026 — an event expected to serve as a major milestone in bilateral relations.

Samdech Khuon Sudary conveyed the warm regards of His Majesty the King of Cambodia and other national leaders to the President of Hungary, expressing sincere gratitude for the warm welcome and hospitality. Samdech stressed that despite decades of global change, the friendship between Cambodia and Hungary has remained strong and resilient, reflecting the depth of mutual trust and understanding.

Referring to the recently signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between the two National Assemblies, Samdech Khuon Sudary said they marked a new chapter in bilateral parliamentary cooperation, focused on advancing the interests and aspirations of the two peoples. She also thanked Hungary for its assistance since Cambodia’s liberation from the Khmer Rouge in 1979, acknowledging Hungary’s important role in Cambodia’s peacebuilding and national reconstruction.

Underscoring Cambodia’s foreign policy principles, Samdech Khuon Sudary stated that as a small state, Cambodia seeks to strengthen its capacity, build friendships across regions, and forge coalitions of like-minded countries that share common values of peace, openness, and cooperation. She reaffirmed Cambodia’s strong advocacy for inclusive multilateralism and a rules-based international order.

Samdech Khuon Sudary also briefed President Sulyok on the recent peace agreement between Cambodia and Thailand, describing it as a milestone in restoring peace and normalcy between the two neighbors. The Hungarian President congratulated Cambodia on achieving this landmark peace deal and expressed his government’s support for its implementation.

Samdech Khuon Sudary commended Hungary’s active role in promoting peace in Europe and beyond, including peace efforts between Russia and Ukraine. She also described Hungary as a bridge of trust and cooperation between Asia and Europe.

The two leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to further deepen comprehensive cooperation, explore new areas of partnership, and maintain the positive momentum in bilateral relations. They also reiterated their resolve to work together to promote peace, stability, and prosperity both regionally and globally.
