Phnom Penh, 5 October 2026 — Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, on Monday presided over a preparatory meeting to announce the composition of the high-level Cambodian parliamentary delegation and review preparations for its participation in the 47th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) General Assembly in Manila, the Philippines.
The meeting took place at the National Assembly Palace and reviewed preparations for the General Assembly, including the delegation’s participation in AIPA committees and related forums, draft resolutions, speeches, bilateral meetings, official documents, cultural activities, media coverage and other arrangements in line with the agenda and schedule of the General Assembly.
The 47th AIPA General Assembly, hosted by the House of Representatives of the Philippines, is scheduled to take place from 16 to 22 November 2026 under the theme “Parliaments Securing a Peaceful, Prosperous, and People-Centered ASEAN.”
During the meeting, H.E. Dr. Keo Piseth, Permanent Deputy Secretary-General of the National Assembly, reported on the Secretariat-General’s preparations to support the high-level delegation, including scenarios, aides-mémoire and other necessary documents for meetings with AIPA Member Parliaments, observer parliaments and other partners.
The Secretariat-General has also prepared logistical arrangements, communications and media coverage, while a cultural performance is being prepared as part of Cambodia’s participation in the General Assembly.
Samdech Khuon Sudary thanked members of the National Assembly and Senate, as well as the Secretariat-General of the National Assembly, for their efforts in making comprehensive preparations for the General Assembly. She noted that progress had already been made in several areas, including the preparation of draft resolutions for submission to the General Assembly.
Samdech emphasized that thorough and detailed preparations are essential to ensuring the success of the parliamentary delegation. These include the composition of delegations for AIPA meetings and related activities, substantive contributions, policy perspectives, cultural activities and other necessary arrangements.
Samdech Khuon Sudary said such preparations would help ensure Cambodia’s effective participation in the General Assembly, advance the interests of the country and its people, and further enhance Cambodia’s image and standing on the international stage.
The AIPA General Assembly is held annually and serves as an important regional parliamentary forum, bringing together parliamentarians from across ASEAN to exchange views, perspectives and experiences and explore new approaches to addressing common regional challenges.
Through parliamentary dialogue and cooperation, AIPA contributes to fostering a culture of dialogue and negotiation and promoting the peaceful settlement of disputes based on international law. It also complements ASEAN’s efforts towards realizing the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 and advancing sustainable, inclusive and people-centered development and prosperity.
